That Which Has Ascended
The cries of the needy cannot touch her anymore. She has seen their rotting flesh consume all that they are. Their eyes grow bloodthirsty, demanding her mind.
Their bodies comply with that which is inside. Their mangled corpses crawl on convulsing as a result of their morals. "Why should you thrive while we're simply perishing..."
This is the evil that she thought would never ascend. That gluttonous mouth that devours the hand it feasts upon. Gorging itself on the substances it damned her for, with no way to produce them. Its pungent odor filling her with its discease, attempting to break her. Disregarding its own self-immolation.
I recognize it in every sideways glance,
in every hesitation of your voice,
in that all too obvious smile.
And although it stabs hatred of you
into my mind,
I know it all too well in the face of my own.
This way of performing cannot go on any longer,
we saw the lights fade upon our smiles too long ago.
Though beautiful in its tricks,
it has looted us from being able to see clearly.
These temptations must provide happiness in themselves,
not in their destruction of you and I.
